Anyone could see the multitude of things that came before me in your eyes. Any stranger could see that you were the one person I couldn't tame. Anyone could determine who you were to me, and me to you.

But only I knew you. Only I could see the flicker of some profound emotion in your eyes on the rare occasion you glanced up at me and away from that console. I was there to see your face when I was in danger. You always knew when to shut up and let me go on without you, but all at once you knew when I needed you the most. I didn't even have to ask. You simply offered, and gave without thinking of the consequences. Out of all the instability my life was built upon, you were the one solid rock I could lean on. I learned much later on that I couldn't "tame" you, but it turned out for the best. Possession, control, hate, love--there was none of that. It was just you and I. Simple as that.

I'm not sure if I should be happy or repulsed to know more details about your life than anyone else. But I'll always find comfort in knowing that I'll never have to talk about these things with you. You will simply look into my eyes and...

You'll know.
